Like other parts of the body, the labia majora (outer vagina lips) ages over time and can become wrinkled and deflated. Aging, childbirth, menopause, and even weight loss can contribute to the labia losing fatty tissue and elasticity. As the labia majora loses volume, it becomes less effective in protecting from friction and impact, resulting in pain during sexual intercourse. Additionally, the labia minora (inner vagina lips) may become more noticeable, creating an appearance that some women find undesirable. Dr. Darren Lazare offers labia majora augmentation through fat grafting to women seeking to improve the appearance and function of the labia.
What Is Labia Majora Augmentation?
Labia majora augmentation, or labia fat grafting, sometimes referred to as labial puffing, can restore both the appearance and function of a deflated labia majora. In this minimally invasive procedure, fat cells are collected from your inner thigh, hips, or abdomen and then injected into the labia majora to rejuvenate and plump the area. Benefits of this procedure include:
- It produces more natural-looking results.
- It’s an all-natural approach using your own body’s fat – unlike filler injections, which your body may reject.
- The effects last longer than filler injections.
- Minimal downtime and recovery process.

SEE ALLThe Labia Majora Augmentation Treatment
The labia augmentation procedure is performed under general or local anesthesia to ensure your comfort. Your procedure begins with liposuction to harvest the fat from a specific area of the body. Once the fat is extracted, it is then purified to remove any waste, dead fat cells, or other impurities before being injected into the labia majora. This is a very quick procedure that combines two minimally invasive surgical techniques.
Labia Majora Augmentation Recovery and Results
Labia majora augmentation is an outpatient treatment meaning you will be able to return home immediately after the procedure. The expected recovery time after a labia fat grafting treatment is 10-14 days but can change depending on how much fat was transferred. It is important to note that while your recovery may be done in around 2 weeks, you will need to wait at least 6 weeks before engaging in any sexual activity.

Who Is a Candidate for Labia Majora Augmentation?
The ideal candidate for a labia majora augmentation, or labia fat grafting, procedure is any individual who is seeking to restore the appearance and function of a deflated labia. This can be anyone who may be experiencing volume loss in the labia due to aging, childbirth, hormonal changes, or weight loss. Candidates should be seeking a procedure that improves general comfort and protection from friction, impact, and pain during sexual intercourse. Candidates should be in good overall health and maintain realistic expectations.
