What Is Mesh Removal Surgery?

Mesh removal surgery helps women experiencing complications from surgical mesh placed during procedures for pelvic organ prolapse or urinary incontinence. In some cases, mesh can cause pain, tissue erosion, infection, or difficulties with daily activities, and removal may help restore comfort and quality of life. The goal of mesh removal is to carefully remove problematic mesh material while protecting nearby structures, alleviating symptoms, and improving overall function. Each surgery is customized based on the type and location of mesh, symptom severity, and the patient’s prior surgical history.

Who Is a Candidate for Mesh Removal?

Mesh removal may be recommended for women who continue to experience symptoms that have not improved with non-surgical treatments. A thorough evaluation helps determine whether surgery is the right option and ensures the approach is safe, appropriate, and tailored to your needs.
