What Is Mesh Removal Surgery?
Mesh removal surgery is performed to address complications from surgical mesh used in procedures such as pelvic organ prolapse or incontinence repair. Over time, mesh may cause pain, erosion, infection, or functional problems. The goal of mesh removal is to safely extract problematic mesh material while preserving surrounding tissue, relieving symptoms, and improving quality of life. Each procedure is carefully planned based on the mesh location, symptom severity, and prior surgical history.
Who Is a Candidate for Mesh Removal?
Mesh removal may be an option for women experiencing persistent pain, mesh exposure, infection, recurrent urinary concerns, or discomfort that interferes with daily life or intimacy. A thorough evaluation is needed to determine whether surgical removal is the safest and most effective option for your situation.
